The Melt is a premium fast-casual burger and melts concept built on strong guest demand, high-quality ingredients, and a focused menu designed for operational efficiency. The franchise opportunity allows qualified experienced operators to bring The Melt to new markets with the support of an experienced leadership team and a proven operating system.
What are “The Melt Food Values”?
Here at The Melt, we do exactly what our name says: We melt things. We start out with the highest quality cheeses, all-natural meats and fresh artisan breads, then we melt them to amazing. Every bite of our crunchy, melty grilled sandwiches and juicy, flavorful cheeseburgers will put a smile on your face and happiness in your heart.
Not only does our food taste amazing, we make it with 100% all-natural ingredients. No artificial colors or flavors. No preservatives. No high fructose corn syrup. And nothing you can’t pronounce. It’s food that tastes great and you can feel great about!
For our customers, our CEO, Ralph Bower, and our team and guarantee 100% happiness with every experience at The Melt. We also promise to our customers that, if we ever fail to live up to this guarantee, that we ask that they please let us know and we will make things right. We love to hear directly from our guests with their thoughts on our restaurant, the food, the service. Our CEO reads every email, so when a customer says something, he’s listening.
What are the average sales for a The Melt restaurant?
The top 1/3 of our fourteen corporate locations that have been open at least one year have an average unit volume of $5,032,438. The average unit volume of all of our 14 restaurants $3,453,958 with an EBIDTAR of 29.53% of revenue (before deducting a royalty allocation)27.5% of revenue (before deducting a royalty allocation)). Actual results will vary based on market conditions, location, and operator execution. Financial performance representations are disclosed in Item 19 of the FDD with proformas from each location.
What states will The Melt be offering franchises?
We are only offering franchises in “non-registration states” at this time and will not be offering franchises in California and Arizona.
The states we are starting with are: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, District of Columbia (D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, Wyoming.
We will also be offering in: Connecticut, Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina
What size and type of locations does The Melt require?
Typical restaurant footprints range from 1,900 to 2,300 square feet, with flexibility depending on market and site conditions. While we prefer endcaps in prominent centers locations may include inline, end-cap, or freestanding opportunities. Our late-night business, Melt After Dark (MAD) (from 8PM to 3AM) makes up almost 40% (38.7%) of our business, so large universities and/or densely populated urban areas are a key element to improve the likelihood of success.
What kind of experience is required from a franchisee?
The Melt franchise opportunity is built for experienced multi-unit restaurant operators. We partner with proven restaurateurs whose performance standards align with the results achieved in our top-performing corporate locations. Some of the minimum requirements are:
- We are building a team of the best operators in the restaurant industry
- Successful restaurant and multi-unit operating experience with at least five operating restaurants
- Strong leadership and people-management skills
- Adequate capitalization with liquid capital of $300,000 and a minimum net worth of $2 MM.
- Reputation as an excellent operator
- Having been recognized or winning operations awards or recognition in your current brands is a plus
- A commitment to brand standards and operational excellence
How much does it cost to open a The Melt franchise?
The total initial investment to open a The Melt franchise typically ranges from $1.33 MM to $3.02 MM, depending on factors such as location, size, and build-out requirements. A detailed breakdown is provided in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).
What is the franchise fee?
The initial franchise fee for The Melt location is $40,000
What is the development fee?
We require a development deposit of $20,000 per development commitment. This deposit is credited against the $40,000 franchise fee for each location as you sign the franchise agreement
What is the minimum development commitment?
We require a minimum of a five-restaurant development commitment.
What ongoing fees are required?
Franchisees pay a royalty fee of 5% of gross sales. Additional details are outlined in the FDD.
Does The Melt offer territory protection?
Yes. Franchisees are granted a protected Development Territory with a Development Agreement for a defined that we will negotiate with you. Our minimum number of restaurants that we will consider at this time is for a five (5) unit Development Agreement. If you qualify, we may also provide you with a larger exclusive territory for a period of 30 months for no additional fee. Specific territory details are outlined in the franchise agreement.
While The Melt does not directly provide financing, we may assist franchisees by sharing relationships with third-party lenders familiar with restaurant franchising.
